Lead generation statistics 2026: every number sourced and dated
Lead generation statistics for 2026, each one sourced and dated: B2B buyer behaviour, outreach, seller time, prospecting and LinkedIn reach, with links.
By the GTM Plays teamUpdated 6 min read
The most useful lead generation statistics for 2026 show that B2B buyers increasingly research on their own: 67% prefer a rep-free experience (Gartner, 2026) and the vendor they contact first wins about 77% of the time (6sense, 2025). Below, every figure links to its original source, with the survey date and sample size.
We built this page to be a reliable reference. Each statistic comes from the original publisher, not from a roundup that repeats it. If we could not trace a number to a primary source with a date, we left it out. Sources were checked as of Oct 2026.
How we chose these statistics
- Primary sources only. Each number links to the research firm's or platform's own page or report.
- Dated. We give the publication date and, where stated, when the survey was fielded.
- Sample sizes included so you can judge how much weight to give each figure.
- No rounding up. Numbers are quoted as published.
- Recent. We prioritised research published in 2025 and 2026.
If you cite any of these figures, please cite the original source linked in each row.

What it means for lead generation: buyers do much of their research before they talk to anyone, and they usually contact their preferred vendor first. Outreach works best when it reaches people early, while they are forming that shortlist, and when it is relevant to them. Our guide to buying signals covers how to spot buyers who are in that window.
Outreach and prospecting statistics
| Statistic | Source |
|---|---|
| 73% of B2B buyers actively avoid suppliers who send irrelevant outreach (632 buyers, Aug-Sep 2024) | Gartner, 25 Jun 2025 |
| 47% of sales reps say cold outreach is one of the worst parts of a sales job (4,050 sales professionals, Aug-Sep 2025) | Salesforce State of Sales, 7th edition |
| 47% of sales reps say their team lacks the bandwidth to do cold outreach (same survey) | Salesforce State of Sales, 7th edition |

| High performers are 1.7x more likely than underperformers to use prospecting agents (same survey) | Salesforce State of Sales, 7th edition |
What it means: irrelevant outreach does not just fail; it pushes buyers away. Fewer, better-targeted messages tend to beat volume. Our guide on how to increase your LinkedIn reply rate covers targeting and messaging in practice.
Seller time and sales productivity statistics

|---|---|
| Sales reps spend 40% of an average workweek selling and 60% on other tasks (4,050 sales professionals, Aug-Sep 2025) | Salesforce State of Sales, 7th edition |

| 67% say their customers require extensive education | Salesforce State of Sales, 7th edition |
| 57% say customers take longer to decide than they used to | Salesforce State of Sales, 7th edition |
What it means: sellers have limited time for prospecting, and buyers expect more relevance. That is the case for automating research and first touches while keeping conversations human. See our guide to sales prospecting techniques.
LinkedIn statistics

| LinkedIn has more than 1.3 billion members | LinkedIn About Us, checked 24 Oct 2026 |
| 410M+ members in Asia Pacific, 430M+ in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, 290M+ in North America and 226M+ in South and Central America | LinkedIn About Us, checked 24 Oct 2026 |

What it means: job changes are a constant source of buying signals. A person who has just started a new role is often reviewing tools and suppliers. Our guide to LinkedIn lead generation explains how to use these signals.
Statistics we left out
Many lead generation statistics that circulate online cannot be traced to a dated primary source. Common examples include specific cold email reply rates, "best day to send" figures and cost-per-lead benchmarks that appear in many articles without a link to the original research. We did not include any of them. If you see a figure without a source and a date, treat it with caution.
How to use these statistics
- Cite the original. Link to the source in each row, not to this page.
- Note the date and sample. A survey of a few hundred buyers carries less weight than one of thousands, and buyer behaviour changes quickly.
- Benchmark against yourself. Your own reply, meeting and win rates matter more than any industry figure. Our lead generation ROI calculator turns your numbers into expected meetings and revenue.
