The GTM Plays SmartReach integration creates or updates each lead your LinkedIn agents find as a SmartReach prospect and assigns it to the campaign you choose. It accepts leads with an email, phone, LinkedIn profile, or full name with company, connects with a SmartReach API key and sends data one way.
What the integration does
SmartReach describes itself as cold email software for multichannel outreach, running email, LinkedIn, calls and WhatsApp in one platform (smartreach.io, checked October 2026). GTM Plays finds people on LinkedIn who show buying signals, scores them and runs LinkedIn outreach. This integration hands the same people to SmartReach for your other channels. See all integrations.
What syncs
Data flows one way, from GTM Plays to SmartReach. GTM Plays reads only your teams and their campaigns.
| GTM Plays field | SmartReach prospect field |
|---|---|
| Work email | email |
| First and last name | first_name, last_name |
| Company name | company |
| Phone | phone_number |
| LinkedIn profile URL | linkedin_url |
| (fixed value) | list = GTM Plays |
| Job title, location, signal | custom fields job_title, location, signal |
Who is sent. A lead needs at least one identifier SmartReach accepts: an email, a phone, a LinkedIn URL, or a company plus first and last name. Leads with none of these are skipped.
Create or update. Prospects are matched on email and LinkedIn URL, so an existing prospect is updated rather than duplicated. GTM Plays then assigns them to your campaign.
Teams. If your account has several teams, the Campaign menu shows each as "Team - Campaign" (GTM Plays lists campaigns from up to five teams).
When leads are sent
- New leads, automatically. With "Automatically send new contacts" on (the default), each new lead your agents find, or that you import into an agent, is sent as it arrives.
- One contact at a time. From any contact's drawer, choose Send to… and pick SmartReach.
Leads are sent in batches through SmartReach's API, in the background, so your agents never wait on it. The SmartReach card in Settings → Integrations shows the time, status and any error of the last delivery.
Before you connect
- Choose the team. If you work in several SmartReach teams, decide which team's campaign should receive the leads.
- Prepare the campaign. Set up its steps and channels before you connect, because prospects are assigned to it straight away.
- Plan the channel mix. GTM Plays already contacts leads on LinkedIn, so lean on SmartReach for email, calls or WhatsApp steps.
How to set it up
- Copy your API key. In SmartReach, open Settings → Team settings → API key.
- Open GTM Plays. Go to Settings → Integrations → SmartReach.
- Paste the key and press Verify. GTM Plays loads your teams' campaigns.
- Choose a campaign. It is required.
- Save and press Check connection. The check does not create a test prospect.
Use cases
- Multichannel follow-up. A lead found on LinkedIn can move into email, calls or WhatsApp steps in SmartReach.
- LinkedIn-only leads. Because a LinkedIn URL counts as an identifier, leads without an email still reach SmartReach.
- Filtering by source. Every prospect lands in the "GTM Plays" list, so you can segment them.
- Signal-led copy. Use the
signalcustom field to open with the reason you are reaching out. See sales prospecting techniques.
Good to know
- GTM Plays does not change your campaign steps or sending accounts.
- The GTM Plays score is not sent to SmartReach today.
- Replies in SmartReach are not read back into GTM Plays.
- GTM Plays does not book meetings by itself.
Troubleshooting
The integration card in Settings → Integrations shows the last delivery and the error message, if any. The common ones:
- "The key was rejected (401)". The key was revoked, expired or mistyped. Paste a new one and press Verify.
- "The key is missing a permission this needs (403)". Give the key the access listed in the setup steps, then verify again.
- Rate limiting (429). The service asked GTM Plays to slow down. The current delivery stops and the message shows on the card; later leads go out with the next delivery.
- "The service redirected the request". Usually the wrong account region or URL. GTM Plays never follows redirects with your key attached.
- "Choose a SmartReach campaign". Press Verify and choose a campaign before sending.
Security and data handling
- Your SmartReach API key is encrypted (AES-256-GCM) before it is stored, used only on GTM Plays' servers, never sent back to your browser and never logged. Settings show only its last four characters.
- Empty fields are left out of every request rather than sent as blanks, so GTM Plays never overwrites something you typed in SmartReach with an empty value.
- You can disconnect at any time from Settings → Integrations. Records already created in SmartReach stay there.
